Your COVER LETTER needs to be attractive and well written so that a Human Resource person or Building Official will have their interest raised enough to invite you for an interview. IT IS ALL ABOUT SALES!!! You are selling YOU! Any good salesman knows that the sale is usually determined in the first pitch. You may or may not close the sale that soon, but the inclination to commit to a sale is determined in those initial moments. How does your cover letter look? Is it bland, or too crowded? Does the format clearly communicate your best reasons they should interview you? What sets you apart from all the others? IS IT GRAMMATICALLY CORRECT? (Spelling errors and typos are the #1 reason applications never make it past the first round.) Don't write a generic cover letter. Make it personal and unique for the jurisdiction that you are applying to. If you don't even take the time to write a custom letter, then why would you expect them to take the time to even read it, let alone invite you for an interview? Cover Letter Content:
You should usually cover the first two topics in the first paragraph and a separate paragraph for the next two topics. Sample cover letters: (Click on "Cancel" if prompted for a login and password)
